MALAYSIA: Lane 23, Kuala Lumpur’s latest premier nightlife destination, has set a new benchmark in the city’s entertainment landscape with a meticulously designed L-Acoustics professional sound system.

Nestled within The Exchange TRX complex, the multi-faceted venue, which opened in October 2024, houses a ground-floor café and restaurant, an upscale cocktail bar, and a 1,200-capacity nightclub that pulsates with electrifying performances by international and local DJs.

With an ambitious seven-night-a-week programme featuring world-class talent, Lane 23 has quickly risen to prominence as a must-visit hotspot. DJs such as RIvo, Marten Hørger, Dimension, Sub Focus, Dubfire, Nastia, Danny Avila, Bangkok Invaders, Irwan, and Cza have already graced its stage, delivering a dynamic mix of house, techno, drum & bass, EDM, R&B, and hip-hop, setting a new precedent for immersive nightlife experiences in Malaysia.

“In creating Lane 23, we set out to deliver something truly exceptional for Kuala Lumpur’s entertainment scene,” says its co-founder, Victor Wang. “The L-Acoustics system was a crucial part of that vision. One of the key challenges in designing the venue was optimising acoustics within its distinctive 50-metre-long, 11-metre-wide main dance floor, which features DJ consoles at both ends. To achieve seamless, high-fidelity audio across the space, Lane 23 partnered with Malaysian L-Acoustics Certified Provider Distributor, Digital Aid (D8 Projects) Sdn Bhd. The team selected the L-Acoustics K3 system, renowned for its power, clarity, and adaptability in club environments.

D8 Projects worked closely with the venue’s lighting designers to ensure a cohesive audio-visual experience, leveraging L-Acoustics Soundvision 3D modelling software to develop a precise speaker placement strategy. This approach allowed them to integrate the audio system without compromising the club’s striking lighting design.

“The ability to visualise and adjust coverage patterns in real-time allowed us to find the sweet spot between optimal sound delivery and lighting design requirements,” explains Henry Hari Ram, CEO of D8 Projects. “We positioned the speakers to work in concert with the lighting fixtures while ensuring that every guest experiences the same exceptional sound quality, regardless of their location on the dance floor.”

The meticulously engineered sound system includes three K3i per side for the main stage, utilising the K Series Panflex technology to optimise coverage. The bottom K3i enclosures feature 110° directivity for broader dispersion, while the top two employ 90° directivity to push sound further down the dance floor. Four units of the KS28 subwoofers are ground-stacked in front of the DJ console to deliver the deep, resonant bass essential for an immersive club atmosphere. Three sets of delay arrays incorporate A15i Focus and Wide enclosures, with the middle arrays featuring a flown KS21i subwoofer for extended low-frequency reinforcement.

At the opposite end of the venue, the parlour area features two hangs of two units of the A15i Focus, accompanied by two units of KS28 subwoofers placed on the ground, ensuring seamless sonic consistency throughout. Both DJ consoles are equipped with monitoring systems comprising A15i Wide and KS21i subwoofers, allowing performers to experience the same pristine sound quality as the audience.

Beyond the main dance floor, Lane 23 extends its commitment to premium audio with A15i enclosures and KS21 subwoofers in the VIP and artist hospitality areas. The ground-floor restaurant space features L-Acoustics X8i speakers and SB6i ultra-shallow subwoofers, discreetly integrated within the architectural design to maintain an elegant aesthetic while delivering refined sound.
